The southern province of Ca Mau has declared a state of erosion emergency at some local beaches.

According to the provincial people's committee, erosion has hit 29 kilometres of six coastline sections in Nam Can, Ngoc Hien and Dam Doi districts.

The lists of the affected areas include Luu Hoa Thanh and Hoc Nang channels and sections from Kenh Nam and to Chum Gong Canal, Kenh 5 O Ro to Vam Xoay, Kien Vang to Ong Ta and Ho Gui to Bo De.

The problem has been blamed for the frequent high tides and the decrease of protective forest.

The erosion has threatened coastal residents, particularly those who live near Hoc Nang channel.

The Ca Mau Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been instructed to cooperate with authorities of Ngoc Hien, Nam Can and Dam Doi districts to zone eroded and vulnerable areas to arrange staff for supervision.

Concerned agencies also need to take urgent measures to improve the situation.

Last year, the province announced an emergency situation related to 2.7 kilometres of coastal embankment in Tran Van Thoi and U Minh districts.
